Mille Miglia
The Mille Miglia, la corsa più bella del mondo, the world’s most beautiful race, has 422 cars on the starting list of 2013. No less than 32 of them are Alfa Romeos, dating from 1928 (85 years old!) to 1957.
Thursday, May 16 at 6:45 the first car will roll down from the starting platform in the Viale Venezia in Brescia, heading for Ferrara. The next day the first departure is at 8 AM, the first car to arrive in Rome is expected around 9 PM. Saturday 18th the long drive back to Brescia begins at 6:30 AM for the first participant. The cars will pass Viterbo, Radicofani (my favorite spot), Siena, Florence, the Futa pass (3 PM), the Raticosa pass, Bologna and Cremona before the first arrives in the Viale Venezia in Brescia around 10 PM.
The Mille Miglia has been praised and glorified countless times by innumerable people, what could I add? I guess everything has been said over and over. So: see for yourself. Hear for yourself. Feel for yourself. Experience four yourself! Join the crowd in the streets, along the roads, on the piazze, or drive along for some time in your classic car, preferably an older Alfa Romeo of course. It will be unforgettable…
